Oklahoma Sooners Head Coach Provides Positive Assessment of Defensive Lineman

Venables Expresses High Hopes for Stone's Development

Oklahoma Sooners head coach Brent Venables expressed optimism about the future of former five-star defensive lineman David Stone, stating that the team has high expectations for his development.

"We're expecting big things from him in the future," Venables said. "He's a talented young man, and we believe he has the potential to be a great player for us."

Stone, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle, was one of the top recruits in the 2023 class. He was ranked as a five-star prospect by ESPN, 247Sports, and Rivals and was considered one of the best defensive linemen in the country.

Stone enrolled at Oklahoma in January and has been participating in spring practice. Venables said that Stone has made a positive impression on the coaching staff so far.

"He's a hard worker and he's eager to learn," Venables said. "He's got a lot of potential, and we're excited to see what he can do for us in the future."

Stone is expected to compete for a starting role on Oklahoma's defensive line this fall. The Sooners lost several key defensive linemen to the NFL Draft, including Jalen Redmond and Reggie Grimes.

If Stone can live up to the expectations of the coaching staff, he could be a major contributor for the Sooners in 2023.
