Land Restoration For Desertification And Drought Resilience

Land Restoration for Desertification and Drought Resilience

World Environment Day 2024: Join the Generation Restoration Action

5 June 2024: Bangkok

The World Environment Day promotes land restoration as a vital step towards addressing climate change and biodiversity loss. The overarching theme for this year's celebration is "Land Restoration: Committing to Solve the Climate and Biodiversity Crisis."

Past World Environment Day themes have highlighted the importance of protecting the environment, such as "Only One Earth" (2022) and "Time for Nature" (2021). This year's theme reinforces the need for immediate action to restore degraded land and promote sustainable land management practices.

Land restoration plays a crucial role in combating desertification and drought, which affect billions of people worldwide. By restoring degraded land, we can increase soil fertility, improve water infiltration, and enhance biodiversity. These measures contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as providing food security and economic benefits for local communities.

On 5 June 2024, Bangkok will host the Generation Restoration action event as part of World Environment Day celebrations. This event will bring together stakeholders from governments, businesses, civil society, and indigenous communities to discuss and advance land restoration initiatives globally.
