The 2000 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 1999–2000 season and the culmination of the 2000 NHL playoffs. The Eastern Conference champion New Jersey Devils defeated the Western Conference champion Dallas Stars 4–2 to win their second Stanley Cup in three years. The 2000 NHL playoffs began on April 12, 2000, with 16 teams qualifying for the playoffs. The first round of the playoffs was a best-of-seven series, with the top four teams in each conference receiving a bye to the second round. The second round and conference finals were also best-of-seven series, with the Stanley Cup Finals being a best-of-seven series. The New Jersey Devils entered the playoffs as the top seed in the Eastern Conference after finishing the regular season with a record of 50–19–10–3. They defeated the eighth-seeded Florida Panthers in the first round, the seventh-seeded Philadelphia Flyers in the second round, and the fourth-seeded Toronto Maple Leafs in the conference finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Dallas Stars entered the playoffs as the second seed in the Western Conference after finishing the regular season with a record of 43–23–12–4. They defeated the seventh-seeded Edmonton Oilers in the first round, the sixth-seeded Colorado Avalanche in the second round, and the top-seeded St. Louis Blues in the conference finals to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. The Stanley Cup Finals began on May 28, 2000, in Dallas. The Devils won the first two games of the series, but the Stars won the next two games to tie the series at 2–2. The Devils won Game 5 in overtime, and then won Game 6 in double overtime to clinch the Stanley Cup.
